March 15 Groundbreaking for SAHBA Parade of Homes in Marana
Tucson, AZ. (March 12, 2007) -- Groundbreaking ceremonies for the 2008 Southern Arizona Home Builders Association (SAHBA) Parade of Homes were held 10 AM Wednesday, March 15, 2007, in the Town of Marana.
The Parade, set for February 2-17, 2008, will feature seven luxury homes built by seven SAHBA Certified Custom Home Builders. Each home will feature the latest in home design and technology, “green build” practices, and superior energy-efficiency standards. Each home will carry Southwest Gas’ Energy Star certification.
Joining the builders (top row l-r Ed Castelhano, Alex and Michael Ross, Jim Raney, Charles Lathrem, Richard Fink, Brad Bauer, and Steve Washburn) were a bevy of sponsors, participants, and Marana Town officials.
This is a unique designation to the SAHBA Parade of Homes project, marking the first time the Energy Star program has been available to a Tucson-area custom home project. The homes will be built at Sonoran Preserve on the Bajada at Camino de Oeste and Moore Road in the Tortolita Mountain foothills. Sears Financial Corporation is the developer of the property.
The SAHBA Parade of Homes will be hosted February 2-17, 2008. The participating SAHBA Certified Custom Home Builders include: Bauer Homes, Ltd; Canatsey Building & Development Co. Inc; Becklin Construction LLC; Lathrem Homebuilders; JD Raney Construction; Casas Bonitas Development, LLC; and Washburn Custom Builders. Steve Canatsey, of Canatsey Building & Development, is chairing the event.
Dignitaries from the Marana Town Council, Marana Chamber of Commerce, and SAHBA participated in the ground-breaking ceremonies.
"These homes offer our SAHBA Certified Custom Builders an opportunity to showcase their very best designs. Visitors will experience first hand the latest in luxury home products."

After a 20-year absence, the Southern Arizona Home Builders Association is bringing back the prestigious Parade of Homes in February 2008. Seven SAHBA Certified Custom Home Builders will showcase their million-dollar homes in the foothills of Marana’s Tortolita Mountains.
The Parade of Homes is part of a 29 lot, 36-acre parcel being developed by Lex Sears. Each builder has approximately one acre to build their home, with an option for one additional lot in the development.
The dates are February 2-17 at “Sonoran Preserve on the Bajada,” located at Camino de Oeste and Moore Road. Steve Canatsey, owner of Canatsey Building & Development, is chairing the event. He also chaired SAHBA’s last Parade in 1988. He said the event “will have a community-wide focus, not just for SAHBA and its members, but for the entire metro area. The timing of the Parade was strategically selected to coincide with four major events in the region.”
Those events are the Accenture Golf Tournament, Tucson Gem & Mineral Show, Tucson Rodeo, NFL Super Bowl in Glendale, and Major League Spring Training baseball.
